Meet Your Instructor:

Hi there!

I'm Caroline, owner and instructor at CAROLINE CLOSE PILATES. I am originally from Yorkshire, England and moved to Cairns in 2006 with my Aussie husband and two sons. I absolutely love life in FNQ and as a lover of the great outdoors, feel very blessed to live in a place where the rainforest and reef is right on our doorstep.

I have a background in dance, holistic health and bodywork and along with a passion for Pilates, I also teach and perform Tribal Bellydance (you can book these classes with me on here too!)

I have done some form of Pilates for most of my adult life and have always enjoyed various fitness, dance and movement modalities. Faced with my own movement challenges due to scoliosis, unlike some other methods, I repeatedly noticed how Pilates based movement could be really well adapted to suit my condition. As I move into the latter stage of my life the need for movement that challenges me, yet leaves me feeling replenished and nourished, has become even more crucial. It is my intention to keep moving well for ALL of my life  This continues to be my main motivation in wanting to bring Pilates to others. It is too good not to share the benefits!

I chose to open the studio in Redlynch to provide a professional and specialised Pilates service to Cairns and continue my quest to make Pilates accessible, enjoyable and affordable for more people!

My Training:

Moving from student to Pilates instructor felt such a natural progression after experiencing how wonderful Pilates feels for mind and body.  I am comprehensively trained in mat and equipment (Tower, Reformer, Wunda Chair, Arc/Step Barrel and other small equipment/props) based Pilates and completed my certification with BASI® Pilates** in 2018. I was attracted to this method because of their holistic approach and in depth, high level training standards.

(All comprehensive BASI® students must have completed at least 500 hours of teaching, observation and self practice along with passing the required practical and theory examinations to become a successful graduate)

BASI® preserves the classical Pilates repertoire and the essence of Joseph Pilates' philosophy while supplementing it with contemporary experience and scientific knowledge.

The method uses an approach known as the Block System™- a specialized 'filing' system for the hundreds of exercises in the Pilates repertoire with each block relating to a particular movement pattern or area of the body. By combining exercises or sequences from each block, a well rounded, comprehensive and personalised session can be created that is appropriate and effective for the individual.

The structure of all my classes is based around this flexible and innovative framework to provide sessions that flow and progress in a way that suits each client.

I have completed further studies in Pilates for injuries and pathologies, Pilates for osteoporosis & scoliosis, working with athletes and pregnancy. Ongoing professional development is a joy to undertake. While I have the honour to be a highly trained instructor I will always regard myself as a perpetual 'student' of Pilates!

I look forward to welcoming you at the studio

Caroline
